Tewksbury Bantam 3’s Go From Rocky Season to Taking Dual State Championship
Submitted by: Lois Goodell
Tewksbury Bantam 3’s sponsored by J.J. Phelan & Sons and The Durkin Company most definitely had a very rocky start to their season. Being in one of the last positions at the beginning of the season the Redmen turned it around and climbed their way to fourth place and therefore qualified to play in the Dual State Playoffs. Tewksbury knew that they had to make it happen in their first game which was against Billerica . As in any other game you bring your game face and your goalies with you. Johnny Willegal a second year Bantam and Ryan Muise a first year Bantam always combined their skills together to compliment and help one another. Both goalies played an outstanding season. First game in the championship series was Tewksbury vs. Billerica . Being a critical game the Bantam C’s pulled it off and won Tewksbury 3 Billerica 1.
Tewksbury now advances to the next game against Nashoba. Another great competitor, Tewksbury needed to remember that they had to keep their head in the game and focus. Great competition between Nashoba and Tewksbury . Tewksbury Redmen pulled it off with a 4 to 2 win. Tewksbury Bantam 3’s are the Dual State Champions. What an incredible game. Ryan Muise and Johnny Willegal played two outstanding games as well as one heck of a season. Job well done goalies. The entire Bantam 3 team played well and pulled it together when it counted. In the presentation ceremony for first and second place former Bruins player Ted Donato presented the medals to both teams as well as the MVP trophy which was presented to George Kuegler for having a goal and an assist for the winning team. Congratulations George on MVP!
So, yes, it was a very rocky start in the season but it all came together and the parents and coaches are very proud of these young men. One more time meet the Bantam 3’s: Joshua Arthur, Patrick Dempsey, Tim Desrosiers, Danny Frost, Robbie Goodell, Alex Hogan, Zach Lamoureaux, Nick Maglio, Erik Monti, Ryan Muise (goalie), Corey Poirier, Tyler White and John Willegal (goalie). This was truly a team effort and everyone contributed all year long to a fantastic end of the season and great victory as Bantam 3 Dual State Champs. Not only do the players deserve praise but the coaching staff of Head Coach Paul Poirier and Assistant Coaches Tom Dempsey and Don White without whose time and patience this team would not have ended where they ended. Thank you coaches.
Once again CONGRATULATIONS!! A tremendous way for second year Bantam’s Josh Arthur, Patrick Dempsey, Tyler White and Johnny Willegal to end their Bantam years. | | | | | | | | | by

At the June 3rd Board of Directors meeting the election for new board members will be held. We currently have 9 out of 12 positions open due to term endings or resignations.
I’ll be honest; these are not cushy volunteer positions. It takes a lot of work to run this association. You’ll hear more complaints than compliments. But in the end, it’s all worth while when you see a four year old fall and get back up at learn to skate or a six year old Mite score his or her first goal or a Midget player go on to make the Varsity team at the high school.
The bottom line is that the association does not run by itself. It takes people that are dedicated to the future of hockey in Tewksbury. If no one steps up and gets involved there will only be three board members. It’s hard enough for twelve members to accomplish everything that must be done – three members will make it impossible.
Many families have decided to bring their child to private teams where you pay your tuition, period. TYSA offers: the stability of knowing your child will have a team to play on year after year; that every player has the same opportunities; and that you as a parent can be actively involved in how our association is run.
This is YOUR association. You can sit back and hope someone else puts their name in or you can get involved. The future of T.Y.S.A. depends on it.
I’ve made my decision. Have you made yours?
The positions below highlighted in blue will become open. You can review all of the responsibilities of each Director by clicking here.

Midget Age Players and Families,
All Midget level players need to register by May 31, 2008 for the 2008 -2009 season.
TYSA is expecting to have two teams as we did last season. Although the majority of our High School players did not participate in TYSA Midgets last year, it will remain open to them again this year.
The Midget /High School division will be playing 12 games in lieu of the10 game schedule we participated in last year. Also, again for 2008-2009, there will be a full midget season schedule available.
This provides the hockey for those who do not make or try-out for the Varsity / Junior Varsity teams.
All participants can register on line with the $250.00 non-refundable registration fee.
Sincerely,
Jay O'Neil

Tewksbury Youth Skating Association Board of Directors
Safety for our children should remain a priority to all of us as members of TYSA.
In 1991, TYSA adopted a rule: Equipment: 5.1, regarding neck guards / protectors.
This rule made mouth pieces and neck protectors mandatory equipment for all TYSA participants. It is unfortunate that throughout our current season we have parents and coaches allowing our players to participate on the ice without this protective gear.
It is the responsibility of the Board of Directors to make sure that the Rules and Regulations are followed by all of its members. It is regrettable that the BOD has to mandate an action of discipline for not following these Rules and Regulations.
On January 8, 2008 the Board of Directors voted to implement a penalty for non-compliance of this rule. Effective immediately, any player found not wearing a neck guard during a TYSA sponsored ice event (skills, power skate, practice, scrimmage and / or games) will be suspended from all TYSA activities for a period of one week. In addition, the coach and/or coaches of that player’s team will also be suspended for a period of one week.
Parents and players must be reminded of the need for this rule and the consequences of not complying with it.
If there is a re-occurring neck guard issue with any member, player and/or coach, they will be suspended indefinitely and have a determination hearing with TYSA’s Discipline Committee. | | | | | | | | | by
